Friday Freeness

Its friday and its free, below are the links for ths weeks hottest new tunes.

Weezy sells a million copies in the first week and records a free remix to thank his fans
A millie (freemix)

Nas hooks up with Dj kahled, Who? We the best! and brings us
I'm On

Styles P brings us new stuff with
Going Thru
Bitch Nigga Run

Mixtape madness

For those of you who like your hip-hop with a lil less bitches and bling and a lil more reality and political awareness, immortal techinque will be vocally cutting his wrists and calling for some economical reforms on this 3rd solo album/mixtape called
The 3rd World

New hot shit from the Alchemist. Hes been away for a hot minute but we all know this guy can make serious beat, catch the latest installement of his mixtape series "the cutting room floor."
The Cutting Room Floor 2

OK OK OK

I know a lil late with these, i had them for at least a week but i just didnt have time to put them up.

First we have the Nas "Nigger" album saga. He wanted to bring the album titled Nigger out for some shock value as well as maybe a lil marketing ploy but people for whatever reasons were not having it (both good and bad resons), so Nas decided the mixtape was the only way to bring the knowledge to the masses with the title and message that he wanted. He teamed up with Green Lantern an bought us this the
Nigger Tape

Next the boys from D block have got together again to give us another mixtape. Styles P, Jadakiss and sheek louch bring us some fire on the supa mario mixtape
So You Wanna Be A Supa Hero?

Now for those of you who dont know Joell Ortiz let me say just this. What the fuck are you doing???????????????
Joell is pure latin fire straight outta BK, first signed to Aftermath imprint then later dropped. He has now put that shit behind him and come back to hit the streets hard with hard features such as the Last night song with Mavado. If you aint heard him this is the time to kop this mixtape and get to know.
The Brooklyn Bomber

If you're older than say 25 you probably got the CNN "War Report" album sitting pretty on top of your all time collection. I know for a fact that Cappone and Noreaga fans have been waiting for some new shit for some time now.
Dj Whoo Kid has now put together a new street album from the war veterans of hp hop.
CNN Back On That QU Shit

Ok also LL cool J has a new mixtape but i aint posting that shit if you want it go find it. Nothing against LL i just cant hear him chatting shit bout chicks and licking his lips.

This should keep you going till at least next week, when i will be back with another installement of Friday freeness.

131-92, Celtics are the Deserved Champions

(the big 3 have all waited 10+ years for this moment, they deserved it)

If there was a points system for hustle play, desire and hunger to win a title, the above scoreline would go someway the highlight the disparity among the two teams. Lakers got embarrassed last night as the Celtics continued to shut them down on the defensive end and dominated every statistical category imaginable.

Rebounds (Offensive-Total)2-2914-48
Assists1633
Turnovers197
Steals418
Blocks04
Fast Break Points216

Usually I wouldn't concentrate on stats but this goes someway to telling the tale of game 6 and the series in general. Looking at the key contributors Doc Rivers continued to trust Rondo who came up with 7 steals despite patchy shooting. Again the bench played a key role with Posey and House working hard and nailing big shots. Ray Allen rolled back the years, shooting like Jesus Shuttlesworth once again. Pierce has been the man all series, earning himself a mention among the very elite of the league. After a dodgy game 5, KG would not be denied this time and made sure his efforts would count towards a title after 10 years of obscurity in Minnesota. Good for him (thats not sarcasm by the way).

As for the Lakers, after coming into Finals many people favourites including mine, they actually turned out to be one of the worst finalists in recent memory. But hey, thanks for beating the Spurs in the process!

Honorable mentions also go to Doc Rivers, who outcoached the zen master every step of the way and also to the ESPN commentary team who definitely added to proceedings. Action Jackson's verbal checks to Van Gundy's calculated looniness made the Finals all the more entertaining, 'Can i get a amen?'

Thats it then! One of the best regular seasons in the last 10 years finishes with a Champion the league can be proud of and a man in Paul Pierce who has accelerated himself into the games elite and legendary status at the Celtics, doing what great players are supposed to do, coming up big when it counts. Okay Kobe.

Better to be Lucky than to be Good

Another poor performance from Kobe (8-21 shooting) ensuring that ridiculous comparisons to you know who will never resurface again. Benefiting from a superstar no-call at the end of the game and poor free throw shooting from Garnett, the Lakers surprisingly held on to win after looking second best for 3 quarters. Interestingly enough the only player competing like his life depended on it was James Posey, who already has a championship. Facing elimination there was a severe lack of energy among the Lakers and the Hollywood crowd who only seem interested when the camera is on them or Kobe scores. Boston will take what they deserve on Tuesday.

Real Talk from Kay Slay

Kay Slay responding to Jermaine Dupri's stupid 'djs are dead' comment. Whatever you think about Kay Slay, he's been part of the culture since its birth. The majority of what he says is absolutely right. Gets a bit crazy at the end though.

R. Kelly Acquitted on all Counts

Somewhere Michael Vick is mad right now.

G-G-G-G-G-G GAY-UNIT!!!

They could find themselves with some unwanted traffic to their site if they carry on with this image, oh dear.

24 points ain't nothing with a 24 sec shot clock

The beauty of the NBA is that there's always an opportunity to make a come back. 24 points is a reach though. With another superb performance from Paul Pierce and big time contributions from the boys E House and Posey the Celts are now 1 game away from the trophy. I was leaning towards the Lakers before this started but have been totally impressed by the resolve of the Celts. Jesus Shuttlesworth also reminded everyone he's still smooth on the court when he needs to be. Check out the super slo-mo, seems to be forever falling but never hits the ground.

Just for the hell of it, why not.

Krs-One - A Friend

Feds taking pictures

This video is all over the internet by now. All I can think is if they are willing to pull a stunt like this with that many cameras around. Imagine what kind of bullshit they get up to when the video cameras aren't running.

Support good music. Buy Tha Carter III

I naively hope this purchase will send a message to General Electric (Universal, Interscope and 90% of all entertainment)that hip-hop will sell, providing they give great artists a chance to make great music. We'll see. But the boy deserves credit, I'm more than happy to give a millionaire another few dollars of mine after he came through and surpassed all expectations.

Don't just take my word for it, heres Rosenberg below, a man who gets free records all day.

Tales from Tha Carter III

Over at rhapsody.com they have interviews with all producers involved on the project. Some interesting stories here, La La originally made for the Shrek 3 soundtrack, Lollipop made for Danity Kane! Most significantly it highlights the caution taken with all tracks on the album, which explains why they were the only tracks from Weezy which haven't been leaked over the last 2/3 years. Keepers for Tha Carter III were held in a vault, not even the producers were allowed to sit in during the mixing/mastering process.

Sidebar - according to Cipha Sounds Weezy does not speak to Universal Records at all. Using Cash Money Records as a wall between him and the interfering tendencies of the majors. Which may also explain why it's such a great album.

Who the F is Charles Hamilton?

A 20 year old kid from Harlem via Cleveland signed by Pharrell to Star Trak. Recently gained notoriety through this freestyle cipher with Kanye and The Game. The kid is definitely coming through with his own style, finding a way to create entertaining rhymes without referencing guns in every other line. Which is nice.

First ever performance on the radio below, appears to be having fun. Is that allowed?
A freestyle which is actually just that, for once. Rather than a pre-written over someone else's beat.

Liiiissssssten!!!

I for one can't wait to see this video, I think getting chased by a fireball whilst rapping your verse is a new event in video history. Whatever you think about Dj Khaled it goes to show that unity breeds success. Think about how many people are down with 'we the best', besides the Miami contingent you got people like Jeezy, Maino, Gym Class Heroes, Kardinal Official, Cipha Sounds, Nore ... the list goes on. A pretty varied collection of cats. As Westwood once said 'beef just gets in the way of making paper'. And Khaled is all about that paper!

What a Difference a Year Makes

Last year Peter Rosenberg had just joined Hot97 and went straight to SummerJam to get played out by everyone. A year later and things have changed. The biggest superstars in the game actually know who he is and strangely seem to enjoy his insults and awkward interview style. The dynamic of a conversation between a suburban nerdy white guy who has an underground hip-hop show and the biggest names in rap make for pretty entertaining viewing.

Memo to the Unit

It's difficult to look 'gangster' when your dressed like a male stripper (pause).

Jay-Ego

Heres the Mr. Carter verse in full, some questionable lines here. Firstly "with my crown"?, if anyone saw the footage from SummerJam I think its safe to say whos wearing the crown right now, and his names Wayne not Shawn. It could be argued his name is mentioned with the Biggie's and the Pac's but the Garvey's and Marley's, doubtful. Also a couple of patronizing shots taken at Weezy. See what you think:

Ch-yeah!
I'm right, chyeah
In my chair
With my crown, with my dear
Queen Bee, as I share
Mic time, with my air
Young Carter
Go farther
Go further
Go harder
Is that not
Why we came? and if not,
Then why bother?
Show no mercy in Murcielago's
I'm far from be-ing the bas-tard that Marcy had fathered
Now my name's being mentioned with the martyrs
The Biggie's and the Pac's and the Marley's and the Marcuses
Garvey
Got me
A Molotov Cocktail
Flow even if you box well
Can't stop the blows *Kaboom*
The Roc Boy in the room
The dope, boy just came off the spoon
Also
I'm so
Fly I'm on auto-
Pilot
While guys just
Stare at my wardrobe
I see Euro's
That's right, plural
I took so much change
From this rap game
It's your go!
(Hey Mr. Carter)
Young!

R.KELLY IS FUCKED

The latest update on the pied peado is this. Kell's is well and truly fucked! I bet you now is the time that he really wishes he could fly. I can only wonder what other skeletons this sicko has trapped in the closet? It would appear that as the prosecution star witness took the stand R.kelly began to prepare himself for some prison Bump and Grind as he looked seriously worried in the courtroom. The star witness, a Van Allen has not only identified both Kell's and the victim in the case on the video tape but also the wooden room which she claims was in Kell's former home. She went on to say that while she had a relationship with Kell's with everything paid for by him she had had a threesome with Kell's and the victim on more than one occasion. Once in that wooden room and once in R. Kelly's basketball court with all the freaky shit being filmed by him. Further to that she claimed Kell's always carried a certain duffel bag full of his home made porn everywhere he went. She also Claims she had been given money by Kells people to keep it on the proverbial DL.

All this summarizing of law and court issues is doing my head in you can read the whole story here.

Looks like Kelly is a bit of a duffel bag boy, but he better pick today to start running!

Ya dig?

J-A-D-A Press re-play

Jadakiss again masters the art of saying the most with the fewest words. His style of short, broken sentences and short words has been the formula taken by most mc's since his arrival, which for the most part goes unnoticed.

STEVE-O The Rap Album! "The dumbest asshole in hip-hop"

Usually i don't post stuff about waste music such as UK Mc No Bizzy unless of course shit is so dumb that it merits some exposure even if only for laughing purposes.

Now then, this is surely potentially as amusing as such other hip comedy classics like the R Kelly beef tune (where he calls out for Ne-Yo) or maybe even as amusing as Jim Jones' adlibs, " Vroom Vroom".
This, and i havent heard it yet, can only be an album full of bad rhyming, shit flows and Play school beats as The Jackass lays out his style in this his debut album. Steve-O did recently try to top himself or maybe he was sectioned. i'm not sure, as i don't watch the Hollyweird circuit to closely, it was one of the two anyway and I hope it wasn't a result of his lack of good reviews for his debut album or some rap beef. Finally the question that remains in my head is, how in the fuck did he get a feature from Kool G Rap on this and could it be any good? I saw the tracklist and he's there. True Stories!

Now the link i had for the download ain't working so as soon as i have a working one i will post it.
I myself am curious as hell to hear this particular white boy lay down some bars. Whats next for the Jackass boys??? Maybe Johnny Knoxvile is about to release a RnB love jams album called "know my gooch" (no homo).
Stay tuned for that one.

Snoop Dogg airs out Bill O'Reilly and calls him a prick!

I found this video of Snoop Dogg laying into Bill O'Reilly while on a dutch tv talk show last year. Of course if you know anything about Bill O'Reilly you will know that hes an arsehole, in fact that may even be too soft, you could go as far as saying hes a total cunt. Anyway have a look at snoop laying into him with flowery language. Then watch the Bill Reply on his own tv show in America. Shame this didn't turn into one of them hip hop beefs, maybe Bill could have drop some bars, hes putting the trash talk out there anyway on the telly. Ya dig?

Suge Knight to Lose Death Row Records in Auction

Its official, a court has ordered that suge sells the infamous Death Row Records. All bids must be in by June 1oth and of a minimum value of $24 million. Someone will pick up the publishing rights and works from the west coasts greats of the 90's such as Tupac, Snoop Dogg and Dre. This could potentially be a bargain as there are a lot of classics there.

Pied Pedo soon to be trapped in a cell!

rkellygi8.jpg
Ok so R kelly's trial is in full effect and he looks soon to be "proper fucked" as they say.
Besides the fact that now 5 or 6 people have identified not only Kelly but the girl n the video, including family members as well as people who worked and were part of Kells entourage. It seems the whole thing has now been blown wide open by some defense mistakes and oversights on Kells part, remember if you plead guilty and take responsibility instead of lying, people tend to go easier on you.

Its no surprise the defense are clutching at straws after another couple incidents. First their surprise witness who was supposed to testify against the credibility of the prosecution witness who claims to have had a 2 way with Kells and the alleged 13 year old, refused to give his social security number so that they could actually confirm he was who he claimed he was. So probably not likely to actual take the stand.
Next, the video tape was authenticated by a specialist in court, claiming it would take a near impossible amount of time to actuially be able to edit and make that particular tape. Finally the specialist also pointed to a couple frames where you can clearly see a mole on the back of the man in the video. A mole that defense lawyers had claimed Kelly had but could not bee seen on the actual video.
DAMMMMMN , sounds like the defense fucked up! they giving Kells' game away.
On the upside of things Kells i likely to get a lot of prison luv! ya dig?

Christmas Come Early

More downloadable magic.

A while back Puffy came out with an album called 'we invented the remix'. That was a bare faced lie. Pete Rock invented the remix, (and adlibs) he also did a good job of making sure the remix was better than the original. Click here to download a compilation of his best. Whilst there check the archive pages of what appears to be a defunct site, the download links however are still live. Which is good news because theres a whole host of crazy shit on there from the 90's such as Mobb Deep Murda Muzik (deleted first version), Tony Touch 50 mc's, Brooklyn Academy album, Buckwild remixes, Ghostface live in NYC and 2Pac/Boot Camp Click unreleased album!

Digitized Classics

Scouring the web for various forgotten records I found a couple of treats for y'all. Straight 90's style aiiight! Over at Rap Mullet Kid Capri, Red Alert and Funk Flex tapes are available and digitized for your listening pleasure. Meanwhile over at ohWord they have a various selection of tracks that you may well of forgotten about since the passing of the Golden Era, most notably this banger from The High School High OST, Extra P & Pete Rock - The Rap World.

Maybe he should of written it down?

For a guy that alleges to never write a rhyme down maybe he could of used a pen and pad to have an answer ready for the question everyone was wondering. What do you actually do at the Nets? Answer .... "Ummmm, eeeerrr, I'm an investor". Oh dear, he even cracked a smile when asked. Horribly caught out. Thats alright we all know the answer - "nothing, im just the poster (step) child of the organization"

Role Reversal For Kobe

Four teams left in the playoffs, two of which no-one wants to see in the finals. Spurs-Pistons would be a ratings/entertainment disaster. Of the two matchups left one holds far greater interest than the other. The whole world will be cheering on the once, most hated on man in the league. Now lets see if Kobe and his yellow and purple army can take out the whinging, cheating, dirty, boring but annoyingly good San Antonio Spurs.

Kobe Top 10 plays of the season

Game time

The last time Game was at Hot 97, flex ended up with a two week suspension narrowly escaping a firing. This time was not quite as eventful but none the less pretty hilarious. Game winds up Angie Martinez to a point but avoids getting kicked out, comes with some great one liners - "Game you sound down, nah its the sour diesel" and attempts to do impersonations of Shyne and Dmx. That enough for you.

Part I - Game on Hot 97 (here)

Unsurprising news of the week

The only colour that counts is green.

According to this report the cracka's at General Electric have shut down Nas' album title. Now the album has a different N word. N--. Nas.

A REAL HOOD VIDEO

SIMPLY GHETTO!!!

HOTTEST MC IN THE GAME !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

MTV over in America have just recently done the "Hottest MC in the game" for this year of 2008.
Now, all of us hip hop fans(over 25) do actually know that hip-hop ain't what it was in terms of content, lyrical ability, production and overall quality, still, recent years have thrown great talent out like the relentless Lil Wayne, who love him or hate him is in many people's mind the greatest rapper alive as well as the not so talented but equally amusing capo of the Dipset Jim Jones.
Anyway the list is out, voted and agreed by the MTV Hip-Hop (NO) Brain Trust and as you can imagine is a load of complete bullshit.
Ladies and gents it hurts me to say that the king of hissy fits is top of the list as the hottest mc in the game right now. Kanye West has had many a run in with MTV in recent years declaring 'Fuck MTV, Fuck em, I ain't ever coming back"
Perhaps in fear that the Ye would boycott the Mtv studios and awards this Brain trust of hip hop has declared this blatant mis justice.

'Hottest MCs In The Game'(MTV)
1 Kanye
2 Jay-Z
3 Weezy
4 Rick Ross
5 Snoop Dog
6 50 Cent
7 Lupe Fiasco

8 Young Jeezy

9 Andre 3000

10 T.I

I could go on and on about this list, my main problem besides Kanye is the fact that Jay-Z is second having put out two really shit albums as his last two outings compared to albums such as the Black album. Why is he so high up? Could it be the industry weight he pulls as a business man? If so, why is 50 so low? surely The G unit top boy pulls a great deal of power in the corporate world so surely he should be higher?
The Titay gravy Boss creeps in at 4. Then I'm left thinking are people saying that the Boss is 4th hottest Mc in the game right now????? This list is bogus! I mean only if they doing it on album releases this year and their relative sales numbers can this be even accepted or tolerated.
I'm a fan of the Boss but hottest Mc ? Number 4? Come on.
There's mc's out there right now that may not have a general release this side of the new year but are blatant hands down a lot better and hotter than some of the names on this list. A lot of names that are in our opinion just at the wrong order. Plus I know there's some Mc's like Nas, Juelz, Joe Budden, Royce 5'9 or even Killa Cam who ain't put nothing out yet this year or might not have had the commercial success as the like of the hugely pushed and marketed American Gangster but still have done enough to be at least considered for the top 10.
Also before I forget, Andre 3000??!?!?!? Get the fuck outta here man, is that a joke?!?!?!?

The worst thing is a non hip hop fan could see this and then go out and hear these artists in that order leaving them to think that yes hip -hop is dead.
Fuck MTV as Kanye would say them lot are full of shit no doubt.

This is a list according to all contributors here in the office, free from bias and free from fucking ass sucking scum bags with no integrity.

1- Lil Wayne
2-Lupe Fiasco

3- Young Jeezy

4-50 Cent

5- Styles P

6- Joell Ortiz

7-Juelz Santana

8- Flo Rida

9-Skyzoo

10-Kanye West

Votes counted and added. To be honest it looks different than I expected.

Party Like a Rock Star (indeed)

From a recent interview with Blender mag, Lil Wayne is asked to recall his single most rock star moment. This was his response

i was in Texas on some big-ass tour. At the beginning of every show, all the Hot Boys—me, B.G., Juvenile and Turk—we had this helicopter set in the middle of the arena; we’d climb in, and the helicopter would take off and bring us to the stage. Everyone would start screaming. We in the middle of the crowd, going up, and we’d throw money down as we flew. When we land, fire and sparks go off. The Big Tymers would come out through a giant Rolex and pour Cristal on people from these giant Cristal bottles; we came out in a helicopter.Whoo! My heart was in the bottom of my insoles. Crazy.

Responses regarding the booking of Jay-Z to headline Glastonbury, culminated with slower ticket sales than usual has brought up some interesting issues over the last couple months. I was reminded of this by Jay's recent response to Noel Gallagher's stupidity.

In case you missed it Noel said "I'm sorry, but Jay-Z? No chance. Glastonbury has a tradition of guitar music." followed by "i'm not having hip-hop at Glastonbury. It's wrong"

Besides blatant ignorance (hip-hop artists have been performing at Glastonbury for years) it also shows a huge prejudice towards the music which has been echoed by many. The outcry that they should allow a rapper to have their precious "headline" slot highlights the snobbery and racist opinions of the people who attend this festival in direct contradiction to what it stands for.

As a hip-hop head I spent many hours standing at that festival watching artists that I would never of thought to see but I did so with an open mind and respected their craft whether I liked the music or not. It appears that fake liberals, bohemians and the legions of mdma, ketamine and ecasty takers cannot do the same. It's a daam shame.

Heres Jay-Z's response to the whole debacle:

"We don't play guitars, Noel, but hip-hop has put in its work like any other form of music."

"This headline show is just a natural progression. Rap music is still evolving. From Afrika Bambaataa DJ-ing in the Bronx and RUN DMC going platinum, to Jazzy Jeff And The Fresh Prince winning the first rap Grammy, I'm just next in the line. We have to respect each other's genre of music and move forward ....

"The world has to change. It just can't be one thing -- and that's the beautiful thing."

Exactly.

George Bush - Reagan saw it coming

This brought a smile to my face,

Ronald Reagan giving his views on George Bush Jnr's employability:

'A moment I've been dreading. George brought his n'er-do-well son around this morning and asked me to find the kid a job. Not the political one who lives in Florida; the one who hangs around here all the time looking shiftless. This so-called kid is already almost 40 and has never had a real job. Maybe I'll call Kinsley over at The New Republic and see if they'll hire him as a contributing editor or something. That looks like easy work.'

Just the kind of guy you want to give the most powerful job on the planet then!

Hollywood Ski-ing

The celebration of weed smoking has long been a staple of hip-hop lyrics. Cocaine use however has always been a taboo subject. If you don't think your favorite rapper has ever gone ski-ing you must be smoking something stronger. It's taken till 2008 for a record to approach the subject on consuming rather than supply. Here it is

Remy Ma

8 Years in jail for the woman who attempted to shoot her friend

Damnnnnnnnnnnn!

Skyzoo - The Neccessary Evils

Great record, from another fire mc from Brooklyn. CornerStore Classics mixtape available on itunes.

News round up and some funny shit

firstly who would have thought growing up in the nineties that Suge Knight was gonna be punched and knocked the fuck out on the street and that all of that would be caught on camera?
No one thats who. Suge was the most feared man in hip-hop back in the day. He conducted the respect of many. Anyway now hes just another guy getting laid out on the tarmac. Who ever smacked this guy must have one serious hook uppercut combination thats for sure.

sugeknight-knockedout.jpg_0006_layer-1-copy-6.jpg _0004_layer-1-copy-4.jpg

Great stuff.

Next we have someone who has blessed this blog with previous appearances.
R Kelly is finally about to go to court for the whole pissing on a minor and then recording it.
The pied pipers legal team tried to again postpone the beginning of the trial which has been 8 years in waiting . This time the judge told Kells he has to come out the closet and face his charges. Hes looking at a possible 15 years in jail if found guilty.

Papoose and Remy Ma's jail house wedding is not happening! Well at least for the next 6 months. Pap was caught smuggling a handcuff key into jail for his bride to be. Result- wedding canceled and a 6 month ban from the prison for the Nacirema Dream man. Lets hope this wedding is not shelved like the album i mean, who wouldn't want to see that prison wedding hey?!?!?

Now for some funny shit.

NO HOMO

This is just an ode to the no homo phenomenon, i know some of these photos need to be accompanied by the NO HOMO sign no doubt.

Damn usher what is wrong with ya specially after all the rumours on the internet bout this dude living in the closet, and after this who would argue??? wouldn't be the first "ladies man: crooner that was a closet non heterosexual.
ushershorts.jpg

I love Killa Cam (no homo) but when i see this picture i was in stiches. This is the man who coined the infamous expression now common place in hip-hop.
camron-no-homo.jpgBy the way thats a dude with killa!

The king of gangsta rap, well i say that but what i really mean is 50 cent the supposed king of NY and supposed best gangsta rapper bla bla fucking bla is looking a tad bit fruity in this press shot. Where is the no homo???
50_cent_in_da_gay_club.jpg

I could i not mention the man who made the trapped in the closet series? Surely hes actually trying to tell us something.

Remember this guy?

Shyne

Locked up for 7 years now, hoping to get out by the end of the year. His official release date is 2009. Listening back to his first release he clearly paved the way for explicit (exaggerated) coke tales and violence with no vocal conscious making full use of freedom of expression. Thats the liberal artistic viewpoint at least, you could say, it's more bullshit you heard before from a different voice. Nowadays these type of raps are commonplace (jeezy, the clipse) but after getting thrown under (into) the bus by Puffy on a one way ticket to prison he at least serves as a reminder of what happens when art imitates life or vice versa depending on your own perspective.

Shyne - The Commision

Cory Gunz

The new BAPE or the new Gino Green?

On first listen the flow is crazy,  but listen to it again. Is there much content in what hes saying? Does it matter? Rumour has it Weezy changed his verse on  A Millie after he felt Cory outshined him somewhat. One things for sure, the fact hes Peter Gunz son sure makes me feel old. Check it out and decide for yourselves

I'm back

First things first

i'm sorry! Aint been keeping everyone up to date with all the goings on so apologies.

Ok now on to more important things.

Remember i am the hater, the 24/7 hater.

I'm not fucking feeling Kanye west. LoL

Now, i am not a hater of talent, i used to love Kanye (no homo). To me as a music lover and an aspiring producer (go kop my shit on itunes, if only i could tell you who i was), Kanye was the best. He was coming out with all the fire beats of a certain hip-hop era. He was making jams, hot jams for everyone in the game, from Luda, Jay-z, common, he even produced "You dont know my name" by Alicia keys not mention some of Killa Cam's hits.

This guy was in my book the best producer in hip-hop at that time. I would say, just before Jay-Z dropped the black album, where again West produced some of the albums best tracks.
Then, and here i should have noticed there was something funny about him because, even back then, his personality was starting to come out.
He managed to push his was into doing an album on the roc label (thank god he did as well). Honestly college dropout was a great album, fire production and Kanye was coming with some blatant honesty touching on subjects at times unusual in the rap game. Result. A classic in my view, for more reasons than just his amazing productions skills.

I was still a fan when he second album dropped. Aided by some great guest appearances like in the first album, the second outing was again a good show of his production greatness and again some witty and intelligent rap but still maintaining a certain street credibility. I mean i still listen to Gone that tune is fucking fire, no doubt! Might be Killa though, he too joke on that tune.

Anyway it was around here that kanye began to reall irratate me i had already let him off his hissy fit at the time he wasnt feeling the love the grammys were showing him so he started threatening that if he didnt win a grammy he would wild out and do some dumb shit cos he deseved it bla bla bla. But then like i said i allowed him. I actually thought he was right and to be honest did desrve better recognition. Nonetheless he was being a spoilt dick and acting 12. I let it slide.

Then he went too far and his fucking delusions of grandeur and irritating cry baby, diva, ego maniac, i am the greatest human being in the world, number one in the planet because i say so! attitude made it that i now find it real dificult to actually listen/watch or even read about Kanye.
This will probably be my one and only post about this guy and i write it only to show you how a great talent can go to waste because of the attitude of the person that bears that talent.

The following videos speak for themselves i dont think i have to write anything to go with them. I will say this, a lot of the time he is actually right, but its the way you go about your business.

3 things.

Grow up

Anger management

Ego deflation

Playoffs (where stats dont mean shit happens)

His team is bad, but in a league based on indvidual performance there is no one player, double or triple team that can stop him. Providing at least one other player can get hot each game, they got this round at least. I expect Boston to prevail however, and take the Pistons, this year KG will not be denied, will overwhelming hunger for a title, again not figured in the stats. Beyond the Pistons consecutive conf. finals appearances is a team whos arrogance and previous success will be their downfall yet again. Boston look good for the finals, again various analysts will point to the bench and inexperience of Rondo. Well guess what, they performed all year and will continue to do so. Out in the west, the Lakers are looking good for the finals, Gasol is one of the best players in his position and will continue to be underestimated due to the fact of his nationality. Another point not picked up in the stat line.

Rasheed Wallace & Juan Epstein

No, not together.

Rasheed Wallace is easily one of the best players in the NBA. Forget stats, to me they don't mean shit. Last years most valuable player went missing in the playoffs and his team got booted out in the first round. So where was his value there. You must admire a player like Wallace who, for all his talent doesn't jump at the chance to become a face for anyone else and isn't afraid to say what's on his mind whilst under the media scrutiny of pro sports. Refusing to deal with the bullshit and leaving that for the plethora of others who will happily fall in line and take any corporate cheque available.
Heres an interesting article and interview with the man himself via ESPN (here)

Episode 14 of the Juan Epstein podcast is now available. If you've not heard it before, its Cipha Sounds and Peter Rosenberg breaking down topics such as: fast food, larry david, bpms, porn, government conspiracy theories, bape and working for "the man" to name a few. Not a vintage ep this week, but you can always check the archives for your entertainment.

Jailhouse P

New blog is up from Prodigy. Check it in all its full caps glory (here)

I've just jacked this summary straight from Nahright.com because I couldn't of summed it up any better myself!

Reading a blog post from Prodigy is a mind bending experience. It’s like a 10 minute journey through a minefield of bad grammar, internet conspiracy theories, random thoughts and small glimmers of wisdom.

Convo with Curtis

Whatever you think about 50's records you have to agree his interviews are always entertaining. 50 called in to Miss Jones show recently and was in good form. listen (here), phonecall is about halfway through.

Back to The Surreal World

Strange article and even stranger interview with Snoop at The Guardian online. The journalist did make one interesting observation however: "The thing that makes hip-hop different from other genres is that is that credibility is often found in the level of your success, not the quality of your music" Correct!

Sobering Reality

"We The Best!"

um, no your not.

When not watching the hilarious Rick Ross/Dj Khaled videos on youtube, sometimes I do like to deal with reality. Heres a couple of articles from the past week that I feel may be of interest to you all.

Article on fatherhood from The Starting Five, one of the best sports sites on the net. (here)

Also in The Starting Five, a long discussion about the Lebron/Budchen vogue cover. (here)

New York Times article on the never ending 'war' on drugs. (here)

Tying in with the above topics nicely is this track: Kidz (NYC) from Mighty Joseph (here).
Which also provides a reminder to everyone to cop the album because its the best thing of '08 so far.

The Original Baller (woooo!)

Let me say that I'm not down with men in tights or baiting up racial stereotypes for entertainment, therefore I'm not really a fan of wrestling. However whilst on Pete Rosenberg's site I noticed Ric Flair had retired giving me an excuse to post this video below. Well before Rick Ross etc, Flair was doing it big. "My shoes cost more than your house!"

Joell Ortiz freestyle on MK show
